Your comment about the publishing of your book has moved me, a white man, especially the idea that it is “up to white people to use” the tools to treat this trauma that Blacks have lived with for centuries. I’m eager to read your essays. Congratulations on getting them published.

This is doubly true now that, in my opinion, we have a leader who is trying his best to destroy adult, complex conversation and thoughtfulness while driving us into consistently petty and racist narratives. Melva Graham’s book, Your Black Friend Has Something to Say, is a deeply personal reflection on an individual’s relationship to the society she finds herself in and how she deals with that reality. This essay is a great reminder as to why Graham is part of the next generation of bold, critical thinkers and an important new American voice.
